My life

In Addiction

Both of my parents struggled with addiction. They are also the most inspiring people I have ever known. When I was in high school I used to tell my friends that mum was a doctor and they couldn’t come to my house because mum was on ‘night shift’ and needed to sleep. I said we lived in a ritzy suburb on a block of land near a nice cafe. The reality was, we were living in housing commission and mum was asleep most of the time, but not from working…

My life

Today

Fast forward more than a decade, and I tell the real story and I say it proudly. We lived in a run-down house, in a bad area and mum was struggling. It wasn’t easy, but we pushed through with what we had. I would save my money to try and support but nothing would work, and waiting lists for rehabs are long. It takes a village of people to help a family in this situation and we only had 2. We still struggle but we are a powerful team and she is a powerful woman. She is truly my idol.
